The Evil Empire
Robotnik returns to Emerald Hill with a connection to the Drakon Empire. Sonic's pursuit takes him to the empire's homeworld, where a trial by combat and a Knuckles Metallix put him under a very different sort of pressure. The four-part story restores Robotnik as a major threat while opening a wider conflict with the Drakons. It later became the complete reprinted story in the comic's final numbered issue.

Robotnik storms the Freedom Fighters' new Control Centre with a stronger Metallix. Sonic loses their fight and is taken through a Mobius Ring to another world, with Tails following.

On Planet Drak, Emperor Ko-Dorr puts Sonic on trial for destroying a Sentinel. Robotnik tells him the case will be decided in combat against the new Metallix.

Sonic faces Metallix Mark 3 in the Drakon arena while Tails watches helplessly. Robotnik expects the fight to clear his path back to power on Mobius.

Tails disrupts Sonic's arena fight with Metallix Mark 3. Sonic then exposes the Drakon Prosecutor beneath its armour, winning release from Ko-Dorr despite Robotnik's protest.
