Sonic the Comic #122

28 January–10 February 1998

Issue overview

The escaped Drakons Hobson and Choy meet Robotnik, who tries to turn their arrival to his advantage. He presents himself as Mobius's wronged former ruler, giving the visitors a false account of Sonic's victory.

Original stories

  1. Sonic · Hobson & Choy, Part 2 #

Robotnik spins Hobson and Choy the yarn that he was Mobius's merciful ruler until Sonic — secretly the demonic Super Sonic — cast him down, then rings the pair into the Emerald Hill Zone to fetch the hedgehog. Hobson's punches bounce Sonic off a flexing belly while Choy nurses a convenient cramp until he fancies the fight soft enough to join. One finger-hold and a punch later Choy is airborne; they radio a fake triumph and vanish through a Mobius Ring before Sonic can ask who sent them.

  2. Knuckles · On the Run, Part 2 #

New Tek police name Porker as Oscar the Pig, missing six years; Knuckles tries to talk it out but Porker bolts, so the echidna floors two officers and gives chase. Chaotix hear the bulletin — Oscar once ran with the Hammerhead Gang — and Vector recognises the mugshot as Porker Lewis. In a bar Knuckles presses for answers just as suave crime boss Hammerhead spots 'Oscar' across the room and hurls the echidna aside: this is between him and the pig.

  3. Tails · Recipe for Disaster #

Celebrity guest on Galloping Graeme's Pizza the Action, Tails watches a Chocolate Surprise Pudding swell until the studio drowns in cocoa, then ferries the audience clear and tells them to eat a path out. Rival TV chefs crash in for a full-blown food fight until Tails forces a truce and clocks the missing name: Gerry Corfu, unveiling the world's largest trifle next door. Corfu owns up, spoons Tails into the dessert, and is sacked on the spot when the fox's spinning tails plaster him in cream — a mere trifle, says Tails.

Script: Lew Stringer · B&W art: Roberto Corona · Colour: Steve White · Letters: Tom Frame

  4. Double Sonic · Root of All Evil, Part 1 #

A quiet spell has Sonic smelling Robotnik trouble just as Agent X reports the Doom Seed planted under the Metropolis Zone. Neat-lawn fanatic Gilbert Grumpy sees a giant weed punch through his prize turf; Sonic spin-prunes it and herds him indoors as fresh shoots rip up concrete across the city. Amy's crossbow frees a grandad from a vine only for new stems to sprout from the stump, while Robotnik chuckles that the heroes wanted a greener Mobius — and now they have it.

Script: Lew Stringer · B&W art: Carl Flint · Colour: John M. Burns · Letters: Tom Frame
