Sonic the Comic #71
16 February 1996
Issue overview
Sonic and his allies reach Kintobor's laboratory in the past, just as the experiment that gives Sonic his speed is about to happen. The fifth Return of Chaotix chapter brings the comic's origin story directly into its time-travel plot.
Original stories
Sonic the Hedgehog · The Return of Chaotix, Part 5 #
At young Kintobor's lab the heroes watch the Kinetic Gyratoscope blast past Sonic into his blue form, and present Sonic finally understands the rotten egg. He restocks the empty fridge, jumps twenty-four hours, then trips past Kintobor into the Retro-Orbital Chaos Compressor so the doctor becomes Robotnik - the very villain needed to keep Metallix from owning Mobius. Back in a restored present Sonic Omni-ports into Citadel Robotnik's office, blazing with fury.

Decap Attack · The Bride of Chuck D. Head #
Mid-brawl between Chuck and Igor, the Professor unveils a bandaged bride he built for Chuck; peeling the wraps reveals a stunner who cools both suitors by preferring human beings. Igor peeks at the brain jars, yields the field, and Chuck escorts her to the roof for moonrise - whereupon she turns werewolf and savages him. From the tower the Professor and Igor muse that a werewolf brain may have slipped into the mix.

Knuckles · The Graveyard, Part 3 #
Nearly crushed in a giant Kohenyu ribcage, Knuckles tunnels free and finds fists useless against the ghostly Spirit. Skeleton puppets block every dig for a Raw Emerald and drive him into a cavern housing the massive Soul Crystal - the Spirit's life-line, last trace of the herd. Panic in the Spirit's voice hands Knuckles his bargain: smash the crystal, or fall to the bones first.

Sonic's World · Brute Force, Part 3 #
Outnumbered in the Cotton Factory Zone, Johnny lures Brutus's Badniks through the works until their wild shots demolish the plant and themselves, freeing the locals. Brutus still springs the mind scanner on him, learning the Freedom Fighters hide as Bob Beaky's Travelling Circus and the Emerald Hill Folk shelter on the Floating Island. He orders Troopers to muster for an assault on Mushroom Valley.
