Sonic the Comic #81

5 July 1996

Issue overview

Super Sonic is out of control and turns on Amy and the other Freedom Fighters. The destruction of their caravan makes the second chapter of Running Wild one of the comic's sharpest reversals for its hero.

Original stories

  1. Sonic the Hedgehog · Running Wild, Part 2 #

Super Sonic tears after Amy, ploughs through Bob Beaky's caravan when she leaps clear, then shreds their rock cover with eye-beams. Buried under a cliff-face he simply punches free; Johnny's shout for Tails to fetch help sparks Amy's plan instead - bait him with the biplane. Super downs the departing craft in flames, laughs himself weak, and snaps back into Sonic amid the wreckage, convinced he has murdered his friends.

Script: Nigel Kitching · Art: Richard Elson · Letters: Ellie de Ville

    Reprinted in issue 203.

  2. Chaotix Crew · The Fundamental Four, Part 2 #

Charmy storms Chaotix HQ with a borrowed Hive swarm just as Vector, Mighty and Espio hang over the liquidiser. Scissors, whisks and fuel bake Hydran, Gravel, Squall and Flare into one clay pot - Vector fumes that such a daft win barely counts. Peace lasts seconds: he boots every bee outdoors, then the pot starts arguing with itself.

Script: Nigel Kitching, Nigel Dobbyn · Art: Nigel Dobbyn · Colour: Gina Hart · Letters: Elitta Fell

    Reprinted in issue 203.

  3. Tails · Shock Tactics! #

Max Gamble bleats that Tails is too slow clearing Casino Night's Badniks, so sparks-and-wires chimps Mark and Sparks kit the fox in scrap shells to trail a pack home. The disguise sheds mid-lair; Tails leads the chase between two pylons and Sparks throws the switch, frying the lot. Locals shout Gamble down when he still moans about lost profit, and Tails leaves with the lizard swearing payback.

Script: Lew Stringer · Art: Mike Hadley · Colour: Steve White · Letters: Tom Frame

    Reprinted in issue 180.

  4. Sonic's World · Revolution, Part 3 #

Badnik Amy and Johnny press Sonic hard while Brutus hurls Shortfuse off Citadel Robotnik's balcony. Shortfuse's temper frees Johnny from his shell; the trio regroups under Badnik Amy's bolt-storm as Robotnik and Grimer dig out the experimental War-Armour below. Brutus arrives to a powered punch - the real duel begins.

Script: Lew Stringer · Art: Nigel Kitching · Colour: John M. Burns · Letters: Tom Frame

    Reprinted in issue 205.
