Sonic the Comic #86

17 September 1996

Issue overview

Sonic finally faces his separated Super Sonic in the Special Zone. Chaotix and Lord Sidewinder's group enter the confrontation, making the third Heroes & Villains chapter a collision of several competing interests.

Original stories

  1. Sonic the Hedgehog · Heroes & Villains, Part 3 #

Chaotix crash Sidewinder's ambush just as Super Sonic means to finish the blue original; Lightmare, Bio-Hazard and Mr Fry trade nightmares and toxins with Charmy, Espio and Mighty. Sonic slam-dunks Super into Omni's field and begs a far-off dump - Omni freezes time instead, sealing both himself and the demon. A week on, Charmy notices Super's hands have shifted and decides not to tell Vector.

Script: Nigel Kitching · Art: Richard Elson · Letters: Ellie de Ville

    Reprinted in issue 207.

  2. Knuckles · Village of the Damned, Part 3 #

Knuckles rolls the burning wicker egg downhill into the river, snatches Mesmer's staff mid-glide and snaps the village free of its trance. The Green Man's landlord peels off his mask - Robotnik, testing whether Mesmer could hypnotise all Mobius. With no lawful prison for a planetary tyrant and no will to kill, Knuckles walks away to mocking laughter.

Script: Nigel Kitching · Art: Nigel Dobbyn · Letters: Elitta Fell

    Reprinted in issue 206.

  3. Tails · Trooper Trouble, Part 2 #

Chained in a Trooper shuttle, Clive's screwdriver kills the manacle power - and the engines. Tails flies them clear while a parachuting Trooper shoots its own canopy to pieces. Clive returns the conned tax money; Wood Village cheers his tinkering, and Tails leaves a hero of sorts behind.

Script: Lew Stringer · Art: Carl Flint · Colour: Gina Hart · Letters: Tom Frame

    Reprinted in issue 186.

  4. Sonic's World · Future Shock, Part 1 #

After smashing Buzz Bombers, Sonic sinks in a swamp until a whiskered blue hedgehog with half-moon specs hauls him out - claiming fifty years of future wear. Sonic smells a Robotnik plant; Amy notes the twin swagger. A Chemical Plant Zone doctor Sonic once saved finds identical cells: whatever the tale, both samples are the same hedgehog.

Script: Lew Stringer · Art: Roberto Corona · Colour: Andy Pritchett · Letters: Tom Frame

    Reprinted in issue 207.
