Sonic the Comic #87

1 October 1996

Issue overview

Sonic is stranded in New Tek City with the Omni-Viewer unavailable and no obvious route back to Mobius. Mister Shifter begins a stretch of Special Zone adventures shaped by Sonic's need to get home.

Original stories

  1. Sonic the Hedgehog · Mister Shifter #

Rooftop-bound in New Tek City with Omni down and no Star Post home, Sonic snatches a bullet meant for a red-haired girl and meets Mister Shifter - radioactive meta-clay from the Black Zone. Hard as concrete one blow, soft as water the next, Shifter nearly pounds him flat until Sonic vibrates the clay thin and ties it lamp-to-lamp across the street. The girl never thanks him; she teleports to Citadel Robotnik as Agent X19 and names the missing hedgehog.

Script: Nigel Kitching · Art: Richard Elson · Letters: Tom Frame

    Reprinted in issue 208.

  2. Knuckles · The Good, the Bad and the Echidna, Part 1 #

Dragging Plunder's document chest across the Mobian Prairie, Knuckles nearly vanishes under a stampede of flightless Apterix. Ranchers Chito and Rooster drop from pterodactyls; Chito brands him Boss Krouch's saboteur and drops him with an electrified prod. Bound beneath a flying mount toward Backwater City's sheriff, Knuckles wonders why this always happens to him.

Script: Nigel Kitching · Art: Nigel Dobbyn · Letters: Elitta Fell

    Reprinted in issue 207.

  3. Tails · Easy Target #

Tails downs three Badniks hounding an oddly dressed unicorn, who finishes the fourth and names himself Forelock - visitor, wish-granter. Tails asks for Mobius free of Robotnik and finds a rifle aimed at the dictator's open motorcade; he throws the gun down. Forelock admits the scene was an illusion and a test, then vanishes without naming any Zone on Mobius.

Script: Lew Stringer · Art: Carl Flint · Colour: Pre-Press · Letters: Tom Frame

  4. Sonic's World · Future Shock, Part 2 #

The older Sonic spins a future where a Candlewick Green drill incinerates Tails, Amy, Johnny and Shortfuse, leaving him years in chains until speed cracked the time barrier. The Freedom Fighters buy the warning; Sonic alone refuses the cave mission. Behind the dead-end wall waits Robotnik's Trooper ambush - and the whiskered twin tips his true allegiance.

Script: Lew Stringer · Art: Roberto Corona · Colour: Andy Pritchett · Letters: Tom Frame

    Reprinted in issue 208.
