Sonic the Comic #138

9–22 September 1998

Issue overview

Sonic fights his mind-controlled Chaotix friends before facing Root directly. The conclusion reveals that the creature's intimidating form conceals a less straightforward opponent.

Original stories

  1. Sonic · Roots, Part 4 #

Sonic takes on the mind-controlled Chaotix, Blockhead Bill and Society Max, defeating the group before confronting Root. The encounter reveals that the swamp creature's intimidating form is not the whole truth about its identity.

Script: Nigel Kitching · B&W art: Richard Elson · Colour: Nigel Kitching · Letters: Ellie de Ville

  2. Tails · Doctor Genius #

Jealous of Tails's heroic reputation, Doctor Genius builds a force field and uses it to make a supposedly unstoppable bank robbery. It repels Tails, gunfire and even the bank's walls, but also prevents Genius picking up the money; switching it off gives Tails the opening to knock him out, leaving the would-be mastermind to recount the failure from prison.

Script: Lew Stringer · Art: Mick McMahon · Letters: Gordon Robson

    Reprinted in issue 168.

  3. Knuckles · The Take-Over, Part 4 #

Ms Alpha, Mr Beta, Mr Gamma and Mr Delta make their final stand against Knuckles and apparently overpower him. Porker and the Guardian Robots are left to handle the intruders, bringing the last original Knuckles adventure in the comic's print run to its close.

Script: Nigel Kitching · Art: Nigel Dobbyn · Letters: Tom Frame

Reprinted stories

  1. Sonic the Hedgehog · Pirates of the Mystic Cave #

Sonic's team searches Mystic Cave for the kidnapped Amy. Captain Plunder offers to trade her for the Chaos Emeralds, but Amy suggests raiding Robotnik's air freights instead.

    First appeared in issue 23.
