Sonic the Comic #139

23 September–6 October 1998

Issue overview

Amy and Tekno land in Mobius's far future, where their adventures have become popular history chips. Whatever Happened to Grimer? lets their simple tactics outwit technology from the year 5000.

Original stories

  1. Sonic · Whatever Happened to Grimer? #

A Metallix overwhelms Sonic in Metropolis Zone, and the defeated hedgehog wakes in the city's high-security prison. Grimer hypnotises him to extract the story of Robotnik's last encounter, then sends him back to a staged wreck so that Sonic believes the threat is beaten; even the prison governor is forced into the deception.

Script: Nigel Kitching · B&W art: Roberto Corona · Colour: Nigel Dobbyn · Letters: Ellie de Ville

  2. Amy · Future Distractions #

Amy and Tekno arrive in Mobius in 5000 AD, where their earlier exploits are sold as history-chip entertainment. Their old-fashioned methods seem hopeless against Gremlyn's futuristic technology, until a straightforward catapult proves more useful than the future's machinery and defeats him.

Script: Lew Stringer · Art: Carl Flint, John M. Burns · Letters: Tom Frame

  3. Tails · Bite Back #

Sleek the Panther challenges Tails on behalf of D.R.A.T. and wins their first clash with ease. Tails changes the odds without matching him blow for blow, prompting nearby insects to undermine the ground beneath Sleek and leave the challenger beaten.

Script: Lew Stringer · Pencils: Carl Flint · Letters: Elitta Fell

Reprinted stories

  1. Sonic the Hedgehog · The Sonic Terminator, Part 1 #
