Sonic the Comic #42

6 January 1995

Issue overview

Sonic and Knuckles locate Robotnik inside the Ice Cap Zone but fall into a trap in his igloo-shaped base. The conclusion of Ice Cap Attack centres on escaping his new Inter-Zone scheme before it spreads further.

Original stories

  1. Sonic the Hedgehog · Ice Cap Attack, Part 2 #

Sonic and Knuckles smash into Robotnik's egg-shaped ice bunker and are pinned by a lethal light barrier while the doctor gloats about Inter-Zone armies. Knuckles tunnels free; together they trash Penguinators and the portal gear as Robotnik flees in a Flying Egg. After ushering freed animals home, Knuckles ends the truce and bans Sonic from the Floating Island; snow falls in the Green Hill Zone as Sonic wishes everyone a merry Christmas, egg-villains excepted.

Script: Lew Stringer · Art: Mike Hadley, John M. Burns · Letters: Steve Potter

    Reprinted in issue 171.

  2. Streets of Rage · The Only Game in Town, Part 2 #

Surrounded by city gangs, Axel wants a quick charge while Blaze calls it suicide; the thugs suddenly pull back on Mr X's orders. At the station, crooked officers quote fifteen-to-one odds until honest copper Feroccio beats the truth from young Dan: Mr X is running a book on how far the heroes get before the gangs kill them.

Script: Nigel Kitching · Art: Peter Richardson · Letters: Tom Frame

  3. Tails · Hero of Mobius #

Sonic boasts of Badnik-bashing while needling Tails for another vanishing act; the fox cannot admit why he was missing. Alone, Tails recalls letters home painting himself as Mobius's champion and fluke wins against Trogg that keep the Enchanter Kings summoning him. Johnny offers a Hill Top Badnik fight Tails longs to join, but a Nameless Zone portal snatches him away; Sonic shrugs and leaves without him, as usual.

Script: Nigel Kitching · Art: Carl Flint · Letters: Ellie de Ville

    Reprinted in issue 158.

  4. Knuckles · Carnival Night Conspiracy, Part 4 #

Safe after the rollercoaster, Knuckles sits in a new office and wants to leave to fight Robotnik; the Marxio Brothers refuse. Chicio blurts that they work for the doctor, so the trio switch their machine to combat mode. The fight goes their way and Knuckles is left looking dead.

Script: Nigel Kitching · Art: Richard Elson · Letters: Elitta Fell

    Reprinted in issue 175.

  5. Doctor Robotnik · A Day in the Life of Robotnik #

A mock documentary follows Robotnik from a cutesy nightmare through a greasy breakfast to designing polluting traps and new Badniks. One fresh robot snares Porker Lewis, only for Sonic to free him and force the doctor to scrap his failures. Vowing one day to Badnik the hedgehog, Robotnik retires with cocoa and a soppy magazine.

Script: Mark Millar · Art: Mike Hadley · Letters: Ellie de Ville

    Reprinted in issue 196.

  6. Marko's Magic Football · Marko's Magic Football, Part 2 #

The slime-warped policeman battles Marko until a partial return to human form breaks his focus. The creature bolts into the sewers with Marko close behind, while Colonel Brown observes from cover. Three slime-coated dinosaurs block the tunnel and end the pursuit.

Script: Lew Stringer · Art: Gary Andrews · Letters: Elitta Fell
