Sonic the Comic #174

9 February 2000

Issue overview

Robotnik's environmental weapon has left Mobius collapsing around its inhabitants. The second chapter of Game Over follows the Freedom Fighters as they shelter survivors and race to stop the machine.

Original stories

  1. Sonic the Hedgehog · Game Over: Part 2 #

Robotnik's machine gives him the energy to overpower Sonic and drain Amy and Tekno, until Shortfuse connects himself to the controls and reverses the process. Sonic tears away the power cables, while the strain breaks Shortfuse's armour and reveals his organic battery, Shorty. Life returns across Mobius, but the collapsing cavern traps Robotnik and Grimer with the damaged machine as the heroes escape.

Script: Lew Stringer · Art: Richard Elson · Letters: Ellie de Ville

Reprinted stories

  1. Knuckles · Carnival Night Conspiracy, Part 3 #

Knuckles samples the Hell House Ride, a haunted-house rollercoaster the Marxio Brothers have quietly sabotaged; the safety bar nearly squeezes the breath out of him. Faults multiply until the cart almost pitches him off the Floating Island, yet he clings on and survives. Dusting himself down, he cheerfully tells the brothers he loved every second and will let their carnival stay.

    First appeared in issue 41.

  2. Tails · The Land Beyond, Part 4 #

Trogg reveals that he was once Shirob, the eldest Enchanter King, before contact with the Evil One changed him into the goblin now seeking revenge on Tails. Tails attacks, but Trogg easily overpowers him until a portal opens and gives Tails and Errol Blackthorn a narrow escape. Back with the Enchanter Kings, Errol calls Tails a true champion and Tails returns to Mobius, leaving Trogg's deception exposed.

    First appeared in issue 21.

  3. Sonic · Day of the Death Egg #

At Launch Base the repaired Death Egg II lifts off; over Emerald Hill an eclipse resolves into the station itself as twin Death Rays carve through homes and land. Robotnik taunts Sonic into arriving, obliterates Tails mid-flight, then widens the beams and wipes Sonic and the whole Zone in one blast. Lights return: the catastrophe was only Grimer's simulation. The real craft is still unfinished, yet its launch is weeks away.

    First appeared in issue 45.
