Sonic the Comic #112

3–16 September 1997

Issue overview

A Badnik sends Sonic into a bleak future where his absence has changed Mobius. No Future uses a possible outcome of Robotnik's rule to test the importance of Sonic's resistance.

Original stories

  1. Sonic the Hedgehog · No Future #

Fresh from flattening two Badniks, Sonic is hit by a yellow beam from a new model with prehensile arms and wakes in a bleak grey city a thousand years on. Purple citizens treat slavery as an honour and berate him for smashing their bullies, insisting Robotnik's vision still rules. Sonic yanks at invisible grips beside his head — still in the present, holding the Badnik's arms — destroys the illusionist, and vows harder than ever that Robotnik will never win.

Script: Lew Stringer · Art: Mick McMahon · Letters: Tom Frame

  2. Tails · Channel Hoppers #

Children stampede past Tails to watch the Channel Hoppers, a sickly-sweet show even their parents cannot stand. Afterwards they all want to play Badniks and praise Robotnik's ideas. At the studio Tails finds the stars are D.R.A.T. members beaming subliminal messages at young minds, but a live camera stops him intervening. Tim Tuna jams the signal with the truth; the crowd turns, the Hoppers expose themselves in a scrap, and Tails floors them with a flying punch.

  3. Double Sonic · It's Raining Bananas #

Bananas begin to shower the Emerald Hill Zone and soon bury it. Sonic blames Grimer on Flickies' Island, where a missile machine with a faulty connection has been churning out fruit instead. He races the pile into a twister aimed back at the island just as Grimer smashes the device — and is buried in his own bananas. Locals offer Sonic a banana split; after today he cannot face one.

Script: Lew Stringer · Art: Andy Pritchett · Letters: Ellie de Ville

    Reprinted in issue 162.

  4. Sonic's World: Amy & Tekno · Spaced Out, Part 2 #

Light-years from Mobius, Amy and Tekno find Shortfuse aboard an Insectra starship — under the thrall of a green Controla-Crawly on his chest. He blasts Amy's crossbow apart and marches them before Grand Emperor Dark Visor. Amy distracts the emperor while Tekno works; soldiers firing at her hit the parasite instead and free him. Shortfuse rejoins the fight just as the Blurrgh attack the ship.

Script: Lew Stringer · B&W art: Roberto Corona · Colour: Nigel Dobbyn · Letters: Tom Frame

    Reprinted in issue 193.
