Sonic the Comic #120
31 December 1997–13 January 1998
Issue overview
Emerald Hill celebrates New Year's Day, but its residents struggle to settle on resolutions. Riot Resolution turns that uncertainty into an opening for a manipulator working against Sonic.
Original stories
Sonic · Riot Resolution #
Indecisive Emerald Hill folk troop to Wally Dithers' Centre for the Undecided and leave resolved to destroy Sonic — exactly as D.R.A.T.'s Grand Chief Whip planned. Sonic spins them dizzy then exhausts them on a cross-country run before racing back to stop Dithers' tank from flattening the Control Centre. Dithers cannot choose which blaster to fire; Sonic wrecks the tank, and the locals resolve to think for themselves.

Tails + Knuckles · New Year Twister #
Tails flies the Tornado to the Ice Cap Zone to wish Knuckles a Happy New Year, only for an avalanche to bury the plane and a tornado to chase them through Mushroom Hill. Knuckles digs and anchors them both — then a shockwave reveals Sonic as the culprit, testing whether the echidna still has what it takes against Robotnik. Knuckles promises he will be there, and the trio toast Hedgehog-manay.

Reprinted in issue 197.
Decap Attack · Chuck's Savings #
Transylvanian Friendly Bank's Mr Lowe and enforcer Klaus visit Chuck twenty minutes after he opened an account; fees have already put him in the red despite Igor's 'Free Money' leaflet. Chuck signs a form promising repayment by tomorrow or medical experimentation — then reveals he signed Igor's name. Lowe and Klaus move on to their next mark: an elderly customer who only needed half a quid for dinner.

Sonic's World: Amy & Tekno · Breakout, Part 1 #
On New Year's Eve Amber returns to Kaamdaarn through the closing Inter-Planetary Warp-Gate, first loading Shortfuse's Cybernik suit with a psi-tech release program so he can climb out whenever he chooses. Shorty, Amy and Tekno head for a Metropolis Zone knees-up until Party Pooper arrives with his Magnetic Ray — a giant horseshoe magnet on tracks — bent on stopping the city bell so 1998 never comes. Amy and Tekno puncture the plan, Shorty floors him bare of armour, and a crestfallen Pooper resolves to turn over a new leaf; the magnet's stray pulse meanwhile restarts imprisoned Vermin the Cybernik, who smashes free swearing revenge.
