Sonic the Comic #48
31 March 1995
Issue overview
Captain Plunder's search for a lost Sandopolis pyramid runs into a guardian that re-forms after Sonic smashes it. Knuckles understands more about the ancient site, making the conclusion as much an island mystery as a fight.
Original stories
Sonic the Hedgehog · Mystery of the Sandopolis Zone, Part 2 #
Captain Plunder cheers at raising the Lost Pyramid, until a Stone Guardian decrees death for the heresy and reforms each time Sonic smashes it; Knuckles lures the statue into quicksand instead. While the heroes regroup, the pirates slip inside, yank a chain for lights, and loot the tomb — then the ancient lamps fail and Hyudoro ghosts chase them out empty-handed. Knuckles breaks a seal so sand buries pyramid and treasure alike, opens a secret exit for himself and Sonic, and Plunder later spins the crew a wildly inflated ghost story.
Script: Nigel Kitching · Art: Richard Elson · Letters: Ellie de Ville
Reprinted in issue 162.
Shinobi · Power Of The Elements, Part 2 #
The Four Elements deliver an unconscious Joe Musashi to Yakuza boss Mitsugi, then stand aside while he wakes, floors the guards, and escapes — a deliberate lesson in how dangerous he is. Air demands leave to drag Musashi back in chains; Mitsugi agrees only if Yakuza men escort them. On the rooftops, roof-dwellers ambush Musashi and knock him out, their aged leader recognising him as shinobi.
Script: Alan McKenzie · Art: Jon Haward · Letters: Tom Frame
Tails in · Zonerunner & The Big Freeze, Part 1 #
A floater drone jolts Tails awake with Sab's holographic plea from Chemical Plant Zone — Nutzan Bolt wants revenge and the Flock needs help — before an explosion cuts the message. Donning his Zonerunner coat and microputer, he rides the drone into a Zone smothered by chemical cloud and unnatural snow, finding the Flock hideout bombed to rubble. Sol Furic appears behind him, claims every Flock member is dead, and Tails realises the sheep may still serve Robotnik.
Script: Mark Eyles · Art: Roberto Corona, Brian Williamson · Letters: Steve Potter
Reprinted in issue 164.
Captain Plunder · Captain Plunder & His Sky Pirates, Part 2 #
Plunder stands trial for crimes against Robotnik on live television: Trooper footage, a severed robot head as Exhibit G, a useless defence counsel, and a camera-hungry judge. Sentenced to hang until he is sorry — preferably dead — he is chained at Highview Corrective Centre, where frog warder Mister Gullets drenches him with something that is definitely not water. Cellmate Simpson the Cat moans that he knows a secret exit he cannot reach; luckily Plunder's hook hides a mechanical chain-cutter.
Script: Nigel Kitching · Art: Nigel Kitching · Letters: Elitta Fell
Reprinted in issue 198.
